March 1st

Streak for the Cash: March 1st 2012.

Good evening streakers.  I defeated the messenger last month 93-90, and I decided to start a blog to help everyone with their picks.  If I place in the top ten in March, I will write a SFTC song.  Without further to do, here are tomorrows picks.

1. Rose or tie vs Oosthuizen:
If you are new to SFTC you might not know the rule that the golf W/D option seems to win everytime, including a streak of 19(?) last November.  Rose has done fine in his first 3 tournaments (33, 13, 33) Oosthuizen has placed 17 in his only February tourney.

Odds: 3 ball Rose +140 Oosthuizen +163.

Anything could happen, but Rose as the favorite and with the option gets my vote.

2. North Florida Ospreys vs. ETSU Buccaneers.

Game is played in Mason, GA so no home court advantage either way really.
UNF notable games:
Took KSU to overtime

ETSU notable games:
Beat UNF home (15) and away (1).
Lost @ Tennessee by 3, Lost @ Clemson by 7

University History: ETSU has been to the NCAA tournament 12 times, UNF has been 0.

UNF major players: Smith (JR), Wallace (SO)
ETSU major players: Sallazo (SR), Brown (SR)

Odds: ETSU -3.0

Senior leadership and having already beaten the Ospreys twice this year=ETSU
Plus how could you pick against that Buccaneer, thing is scary looking

3. Brandon Paul vs Trey Burke or tie

Historically, I've struggled a lot with first half player props, but here we go anyway.

Trey Burke (FR) ppg=14.2
Brandon Paul (JR) ppg=14.8

Game odds Illinois -1.5

Trey Burke form: 12, 19, 17, 14 ,12
Brandon Paul form: 17, 9, 2, 19, 21

Brandon Paul: Leading scorer by 1.4 ppg
Trey Burke:  Leading scorer by 0.1 ppg

I'm going to go with Brandon Paul because I think the junior will come out hot in a game he knows his team needs to have any conceivable chance at a NCAA tourney berth.

4. FT in the first 2 min of second half? Y/N

Illinois FTM/G= 12.1
Michigan FTM/G= 9.93

Combined FT then, is about 22, one would suppose that they should pick yes, but due to the first 2 min of a half tending to be slower, 6-8 possessions and a shooting foul is needed in one of them, as well as a supposed O/U of around 125 (line isn't out when I write this) I think that No FTM is the better option.

5. Anthony Davis, PTS+RB, 13- or 14+

Anthony Davis is a great player, but he's averaging 14.3 ppg and 9.8 rebounds... this prop is only for one half which is approximately 7.1 points and 4.9 rebounds or exactly 13.

Now lets look at the competition: Georgia is one of the worst teams in the SEC so it is conceivable that Davis should go over his average, but Georgia does like to play a slow game (UK only scored 57 in the first matchup) which could limit Davis's touches.  In the first game Davis had 4 pts and 11 rebounds.

I have to wait to see the O/U on this one, if its above 125 I'll take the over, below 125, I'll go under.  I expect it to be around 120, so for now I'm going to say 13-.

6. San Diego vs Pepperdine

I think San Diego is the superior team. Enough said.
